The Black Management Forum (BMF) condemns the appointment of Nico Bezuidenhout as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mango, a state-owned low-cost carrier and subsidiary of South African Airways (SAA), and will challenge it through all available means.

“The BMF will challenge the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), SAA and Mango Airlines on this outrageous appointment of a 'white male matriculant’, who is reported to have fraudulently misrepresented his qualifications to rescue the airline whereas there are thousands of suitably qualified Black Professionals who can fill this role. We are very concerned that the job specifications appear to have been tailored to suit Mr Bezuidenhout because we have never seen any advertisement for a senior position, like that of a DG, DDG, CEO, COO, or CFO, where the minimum academic requirement is a matric.” Nomlala remarks.

Nomlala is, however, adamant that the most critical issue is not Bezuidenhout's competence or qualifications. “The BMF would, regardless of the qualification issue, still condemn this appointment primarily as a matter of principle but also because the selection process followed was clearly compromised if not downright flouted. I can also confirm, and have the documents to prove, that the advert was altered to suit Mr Bezuidenhout. The position was advertised twice, eight months apart. The first advert had a degree as a minimum requirement whereas the second advert did not. We intend to write to Parliament, which is Constitutionally mandated to keep the Executive accountable, to ensure that this process of candidate selection was in accordance to principles of good governance.” he adds.

The Black Management Forum (BMF) would like to take this opportunity to commend KPMG for appointing Ms Nhlamu Dlomu as its Global Head of Human Resources.

Nhlamu, who returned back to the firm in 2012, rose to the position of Chief Executive Officer at KPMG in 2017 and had the difficult task of rebuilding public trust and later handed over the reins to the current CEO, Ignatius Sehoole.

She is a highly experienced professional with over 19 years’ experience in management consulting, and management roles gained mainly in organizational development and human resources across various industry sectors. As a former HR Executive for one of the largest banks in South Africa, her experience spans culture transformation, change management and other people management practices.

"Ms Nhlamu is a capable leader and accomplished professional who espouses the values of the BMF. Her steady and unfaltering leadership serves as a great inspiration to black professionals”, said BMF President Andile Nomlala who also echoed the views expressed by KPMG Chairman Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu who said, “I have no doubt that Nhlamu’ s leadership experience as well as human resources and change management expertise will prove invaluable to drive the global collective strategy forward.”

The Black Management Forum (BMF) would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Nicholas Maweni on his appointment as SAMRO’s Independent Chairperson.   

Maweni, who boasts an impressive corporate career spanning more than 17 years, is a former Managing Director of the BMF and was previously the Chief Marketing Officer at IBM, looking after sub-Saharan Africa. Maweni was responsible for Marketing, Communications, Demand Programmes, Workforce and Field Enablement, Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Affairs and Market Insights. Maweni also served as the Group Marketing Director of Crossroads Distribution, a logistics, transport and supply chain company in Africa, which owns outfits such as Skynet Worldwide Express.

“The BMF has the utmost confidence in the skills, expertise and experience that Maweni has and looks forward to his leadership of the organisation”, said BMF President Andile Nomlala.”

The Black Management Forum (BMF) would like to take this opportunity to commend Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) for appointing Ms Busisiwe Mavuso as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) replacing the outgoing CEO and BMF stalwart, Mr Bonang Mohale.

Mavuso, who started her career in finance in 1995 in the Banking Industry, has previously served as the Managing Director of the BMF and Director at the Black Management Forum Investment Company Limited. She also held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Operations Director at the BMF. Mavuso has worked for different companies in various industries ranging from Training; Consulting; Telecommunications and Healthcare over the past 22 years.

Mavuso, who is a steadfast ultimate professional, has been involved in the BMF for over 15 years and has been a vocal and active advocate of transformation in our country.

"We see, in Ms Mavuso, a capable leader who has come of age and we are inspired by her resilient and unwavering spirit. We are confident that she will successfully pick up the baton from her predecessor Mr. Mohale”, said BMF President Andile Nomlala.
